Bruce Gordon Richardson of Charlestown RI passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 6th 2016. He was 83 years old. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley, daughters Nancy and Leslie, his son-law Michael Ensslin and his sister Sue. Bruce was a caring and dedicated father, gifted photographer and passionate writer. His published works include numerous wildlife photos as well as photos of the Soviet-Afghan war. His works have been featured in Time Magazine, Newsweek and Alaska Magazine. An archive of his Afghan photos and articles are housed at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Bruce dedicated 35 years to teaching, research, investigative reporting and advocacy for the Afghan people. Bruce served with distinction in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. These experiences heightened his sensitivity to the tragedies of everyday people during war times. Bruce honored these lessons in his subsequent work on behalf of the Afghan people. He delighted in history, reading, writing, singing and talking politics with friends both locally and abroad. Bruce will be missed by family and friends for his generous spirit, keen insights, search for the truth and sense of humor. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
